    Side Effects to Expect

    Ayurveda suggests we rest the adrenals during a cleanse. If you are a heavy caffeine user, we recommend tapering off 3 days before Day 1 to avoid "The Headache." If you must have something, try a cup of green tea or dandelion root "coffee." 

    • "I have a social dinner on Day 5. How do I handle it?" 

    The goal is progress, not perfection. If you must go out, choose the warmest, simplest veggie-based dish on the menu. Skip the alcohol and raw salads. Resume your ritual the next morning without guilt. 

    • "I hate the taste of Ghee. Do I have to use it?" 

    Ghee is the "carrier oil" for toxins, but if it's a dealbreaker, you can use Organic Coconut Oil. However, try adding a pinch of salt or mixing it directly into your warm Kitchari—the flavor is much milder when combined with spices! 

    • "What if I start my period during the Intensive Phase?" 

    If your cycle begins, please stop the intensive practices (Ghee, Nasya, Triphala). Your body is already doing a "cleanse" of its own. Switch to the Nourish diet (Phase 1) and focus purely on rest.

    People often panic when they feel "worse" before they feel "better." This section keeps them from quitting.

    Try this: 

    A dull headache 

    Caffeine withdrawal or dehydration. 

    Increase warm water intake; apply Peppermint oil to temples. 

    Low energy/Fatigue 

    Your body is diverting energy to the liver/gut. 

    Listen to it. Take a 20-minute nap or go to bed at 8:30 PM. 

    Irritability/Anger 

    Emotional "Ama" (toxins) are surfacing. 

    This is normal! Use the Evening Journal prompt to "vent" it onto the page. 

    Constipation 

    Not enough hydration or fiber.
