Having been a primary school teacher once upon a time, I can often be heard laughing or giving a client my "teacher voice" when getting passionate about skin care. My eye for detail and desire to see results drew me to the world of permanent cosmetics. I am a licensed master esthetician and permanent cosmetic artist. When I am not at KBB, I am most likely working on a small house build with my husband Clint, owner of Sundog Studios, having fun with one of my 4 daughters or growing something mighty in the greenhouse.

Kara's Beauty Barn has been an evolving dream of mine for over 15 years now. After a trip to India, I have been learning more about Ayurvedic medicine and want to incorporate more holistic wellness ideas into the Beauty Barn. We are constantly growing and changing around here. It is beautiful. It is an honor to lead a team of talented women in their mission to help you feel your most beautiful inside and out. We can't wait to have you at the Barn - you belong here!

ESTHETICIAN

Since a young age I've always been motivated to learn more and more about beauty/skincare. It all started in middle school when I found a passion for makeup and started practicing on myself. My mother and sister were always so impressed, they started asking me to do their makeup for special events. I realized it was something I enjoyed and could see myself doing all the time.

Around this same time I started developing pretty severe acne. On top of that, I have had eczema since I was a child. I used to be embarrassed of my skin. I spent so much time and money trying product after product, seeing doctors and spending hours on youtube just trying to find the one thing that would make it all magically disappear. I did this for years, pretty much all through high school. It wasn’t until I started to find balance in my life and the decision to go to esthetics school when I realized the key to healthy/normal skin was fairly simple. Now it is my goal to share everything I’ve learned to help everyone love their skin.

ESTHETICIAN

I've been a licensed esthetician for 14 years and I absolutely love being a part of this amazing team! I have a deep passion for holistic skincare combined with an in-depth understanding and interest in the science behind ingredients, and I carefully curate treatments and regimens for each client that nurtures the skin and body as a whole.

I strive to create a calming and enjoyable experience with each and every service and whether it's through soothing facials or targeted treatments, I look forward to interacting with my clients and my ultimate goal is for everyone to leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and confident in their glowing skin!

ESTHETICIAN

For me, esthetics is about so much more than skincare it’s about creating a space where you can slow down, feel cared for, and leave feeling like the best version of yourself.

As a licensed esthetician, esthetics educator, and bilingual provider (English & Spanish), I love combining results-driven treatments with a relaxing, personalized experience. My favorite services are relaxation facials and lymphatic drainage, but I truly enjoy everything from customized skincare to brows, lashes, and waxing. Every appointment is an opportunity to help you feel confident, refreshed, and genuinely cared for.

When I’m not in the treatment room, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family or adding another plant to my growing collection as I work on becoming a plant mama. 🌿

MASSAGE THERAPIST / KBB RELATIONSHIP LIAISON

Hi, I’m Melissa! I graduated from the Whatcom Community College Massage Therapy program in 2013 and found my passion in spa settings, where I believe calm and nurturing environments are key to deep relaxation and healing. My approach to massage is guided by patience, curiosity, empathy, and intuition, with a focus on Swedish and relaxation techniques that support nervous system balance and a sense of peace.

I'm also excited to take on the role of KBB Relationship Liaison here at Kara’s Beauty Barn. I’ll be your dedicated point of contact for membership support and client care. My intention is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and understood—not just as a client, but as a whole person. I believe that being witnessed in that way can spark powerful growth and meaningful change, and I’m here to support that journey. I’m a deeply resourceful person, so if I don’t have the answer right away, I’ll always lean on the tools, knowledge, and team around me to help find it for you.When I’m not in the treatment room or behind the scenes helping enhance your journey with us, you’ll find me spending time with my partner, being silly with my kids, or making space for quiet moments to rest and recharge.

I believe everyone deserves a place where the world gets quiet for a while and that's exactly what I aim to create in every session. My approach to massage is rooted in the belief that the body already knows how to heal itself, sometimes it just needs permission to slow down. I meet every client where they are and guide them through intentional touch back to a place of calm, balance, and ease. Whether you're dealing with chronic tension, a restless nervous system, or simply the weight of a busy life, my goal is always the same: help you leave feeling lighter than when you walked in.

Every session I offer is deeply intentional and always client-led. I believe movement heals the body, that the nervous system deserves as much care as our muscles, and that leaving a session feeling grounded and revitalized is something every single person is worthy of. When I'm not in the treatment room you'll find me hiking trails, making art, tending my garden, or adventuring outdoors with my dogs. I can't wait to welcome you in, come as you are, we'll find your quiet together.

SPA MANAGER / EVENT COORDINATOR / MAKEUP ARTIST

I absolutely adore my roll at the Beauty Barn. As Spa Manager and Event Coordinator I am here to help with anything you need! I have extensive training in make-up applications and spray tans, but I get my real thrills from managing the day-to-day operations here at KBB.

I am a mom to two wonderful kiddos, a long-time partner to a man that fixes everything I break and a lifetime Upper-Lefter (Washingtonian)! I met Kara at the age of 19 when I was working Front Desk at my first job in the spa industry. I was instantly drawn to her magnetic smile and laugh that seemed to contain some sort of unparalleled happiness I have yet to come across in another human. I started soaking in everything about skincare, make-up and aesthetics I could get my hands on and have been lucky enough to work along-side many talented artists, training on make-up applications, spray tans and beauty trends ever since. My passion for beauty and for people has never changed. I have loved following along with Kara on her journey over the years to what she has created with the utopia that is the ever-evolving Beauty Barn. I can’t wait to meet you, beautiful!
